A daily email update—How about having your board tell your customers where it is?
This is certainly not a new idea. There are many companies that do this already, but they do it on an as needed basis. The customer has to go online, enter his pass word, and find his board, then and only then, will he find out where his board is. What if you did it proactively? What if every day, or more than once a day, your customer would know where her board is? And another idea—what if he/she did not even have to open his/her email but the status would be in the subject? This would be particularly appropriate for quick-turn orders. Production orders would have to be reported in the body of an email, otherwise you would be sending hundreds of emails every day. Logistically this is possible but I think you would drive the customer crazy after a while. So what you could do is offer it as a personal preference for hot part numbers. The customers could check the regular email update box and whenever there was movement he/she would get an email where the update would be in the subject like.
“Your pn1233457 is now at solder mask and is 90% complete, Del’y date of 3/31/10 is still good.”
Simple, isn’t it? Yes, and very user friendly. Your customer could be constantly updated as to where his/her board is. Buyers want instant answers and this system would provide just that.
A simple, elegant offering that will make doing business with your company a “Gasp Worthy” experience.
