Philadelphia, PA- Rohm and Haas Company announced new leadership roles for several of its business units. Raj L. Gupta, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, noted that the series of promotions and new assignments is a tribute to the depth of talent represented among the company's leadership group.
These assignments will be effective no later than December 1, 2002:
Nicholas Gutwein, 42, will become President and CEO of Rodel, Inc., a division of the company's Electronic Materials Business Group. He will remain a Vice President of Rohm and Haas Company. Mr. Gutwein is a graduate of Purdue University, where he earned a B.S. degree in Marketing Management. He joined Rohm and Haas in 1991, after more than a decade of management consulting experience.
Suzanne Rowland, 41, will succeed Mr. Gutwein as Global Business Director for Adhesives and Sealants. She also will remain a Vice President of Rohm and Haas Company. Ms. Rowland earned her B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, and an M.B.A. from the London Business School. She has worked for Rohm and Haas since 1985 in a wide range of increasingly responsible positions, including plant financial analyst and controller, plant manager of the Croydon, PA facility, group market manager for Construction Products and business manager for North American Specialty Polymers.
James Swanson, 49, will succeed Ms. Rowland as head of the North American Architectural and Functional Coatings business. He remains a Vice President of Rohm and Haas Company. With nearly $1 billion in annual revenue, this is the largest regional business within the Rohm and Haas portfolio. It includes technologies sold for use in the house paint, graphic arts, industrial coatings, leather, paper and textile markets, to name a few.
M. Reginald Horne, 44, will succeed Mr. Swanson as Global Business Director for Powder Coatings. He also is a Vice President of Rohm and Haas. Mr. Horne earned a B.S. degree from Clarkson University in Industrial Management and Marketing. During his career, he has held sales management positions with Dow Chemical, Sherwin-Williams and Morton International.
John Culbertson, 48, will succeed Mr. Horne as Global Business Director for the Automotive Coatings business. Mr. Culbertson holds a B.A. degree in Economics from Union College, as well as an M.B.A. from Cornell University. Earlier in his career, Mr. Culbertson worked for Colgate-Palmolive in assignments that included strategic planning, marketing and regional management.
