San Jose, CA -- Sanmina-SCI Corp. and Bell Microproducts announced an affordable and easy-to-use Entry Network Attached Storage (NAS) box that simplifies storage management for small businesses, homes and media centers. Sanmina-SCI has designed the NAS product incorporating the Intel 80219 processor based on Intel XScale technology and Intel 31244 4-port SATA controller. The entry NAS box will be available through Bell Microproducts, the preferred North America and Europe distributor.

"Our development with Intel products clearly highlights our commitment to become a world-class ODM and EMS provider who has thoughtfully and strategically executed a plan that will enhance Sanmina-SCI's complete end-to-end services offering to OEMs," stated Barry Hutt, Director, Storage Systems for Newisys, a Sanmina-SCI Company. "Intel's reputation speaks for itself and we are very pleased with the storage product we have designed using its products. Our new product exemplifies our ODM capabilities at Sanmina-SCI and is further evidence that the trend towards combining ODM and manufacturing programs is providing distinct benefits to our customers."

"Intel-based storage products are helping enable Sanmina-SCI to develop easy-to-use and affordable storage products," said Hans Geyer, Vice President and General Manager for Intel's Storage Group. "Intel's flexible, standards-based storage components enable companies such as Sanmina-SCI to bring to market NAS devices that meet the storage needs for homes and businesses."

"We are very excited about participating with Sanmina-SCI in this effort. As one of the leading EMS providers, we are confident Sanmina-SCI's ODM products, technologies and services will strongly benefit our customers as we roll out this new Entry NAS product," stated George Papajohn, Sr., Vice President of Marketing for Bell Microproducts. "The addition of this particular Intel XScale powered entry NAS box aligns well with Bell Microproducts' strategy to offer best-in-class storage products and related services as we work to enable solutions to satisfy the endless demand for more and more storage."

The NAS box features an Intel 80219 processor and an Intel 31244 4-port SATA controller to leverage new high-capacity SATA Disk Drives, allowing up to 2 terabytes of storage in a toaster-sized package. The system comes complete with integrated, easy-to-use software from ApplianceWare(TM), an innovator in NAS software based on Intel XScale technology. Integrated Intel Gigabit Ethernet enables attachment to state-of-art LAN technology. In addition to network access, the system will have support for firewire, USB and serial attachments. As a result, users can configure the NAS box for a printer server or backup device. Users will also experience full-featured data protection via RAID 0, 1 and 5 technology, providing a safe haven for video, photos, movies, music and important data for home and small business environments. This system also features Intel Flash.
