Brockton, Mass. – SIE Computing Solutions Inc. announced several major milestones that marked the company’s continued growth in 2009.
In April 2009, the company, formerly Carlo Gavazzi Computing Solutions, announced that it was acquired by privately-held embedded computing company S.I.E AG. The integration of the new SIE Computing Solutions into S.I.E. AG allows the company to offer the industry’s broadest array of embedded solutions for a wide range of applications, and further expands its worldwide opportunities for growth.
“We are fortunate that the trend of outsourcing by world-class organizations in order to help reduce costs and mitigate risks matches well with SIE’s core competencies, which ultimately enabled our organization to experience a strong year of financial performance and new product development,” said Chris Boutilier, president of SIE Computing Solutions. “In 2010, we look forward to continuing to serve as the trusted partner for supplying high-performance embedded computing solutions used by the world’s most advanced and demanding customers in mission-critical deployments.”
SIE continued new product development of its rugged line in 2009 with enhanced versions of the ATR 700 Series, including unique frame designs for maximum heat dissipation in the 716 Conduction Cooled and 717 Air-Over Conduction Cooled ATRs, and the introduction of the brand new 720 Series Liquid Cooled ATR.
Expanding this commitment to VPX, SIE also introduced the 5-slot I/O PLUS 3U VPX Full Mesh Backplane, designed for a wide array of applications and capable of delivering over 200 watts of power per VPX slot to provide high-bandwidth in a compact size.
2009 also brought international growth and expansion for SIE Computing Solutions. In April, the company signed an agreement with ACAL Microsystems of Berkshire, England to act as the company’s exclusive UK sales partner. A division of ACAL Technology, ACAL Microsystems has over 20 years of experience supplying embedded and bus-based computer products to UK OEMs and system integrators in the avionics, broadcast, communications, defense, industrial, medical, and transport industries. ACAL Microsystems specializes in solutions based on standard architectures/busses, including VME, VPX, PCI, cPCI, xTCA, PC104 and others.
To further the company’s growth in the UK, SIE hired industry veteran Ian Day to assist in business development pursuits in the country, as well as to act as a consultant to SIE Computing Solutions’ world-class engineering teams on standard ATR, VPX and new technology products. Day brings over 30 years of technology experience in designing enclosures for severe environments. Prior to SIE, Day served as the head of R&D for Elma UK, the European Centre for Severe System Products. He also worked on the British Military VME program where he designed, developed, and qualified all severe environment enclosures, including Mil Spec power supplies, backplanes, and air-cooled and conduction-cooled enclosures for the military and industrial markets.
