Florence, Ky., Kelsterbach, Germany, Shanghai, PR China – Ticona announced it received Green Partner certification from Sony Corporation at U.S. production plants in Shelby, NC, and Florence, where it manufactures the portfolio of V-0 Engineering Polymers for Eco-Friendly Innovation™ — Vectra® and Zenite® liquid crystal polymer (LCP), Fortron® polyphenylene sulfide (PPS), Celanex® XFR® thermoplastic polyester (PBT), and Riteflex® XFR thermoplastic polyester elastomer (TPC-ET).

The global consumer electronics company designates Green Partners based upon a supplier’s cooperation in the production of eco-friendly products and their ability to meet established regulations for environment-related substances found in components of products that bear the Sony name.

“Ticona is pleased to recertify its Shelby production facility as a member of the Sony Green Partner Program, and expand this special certification to include our facility in Florence,” said Tom Hannigan, global quality manager for Ticona. “This designation underlines our commitment to provide customers with a broad product line of engineering polymers that enable them to develop eco-friendly innovations that can meet their requirements and comply with industry standards.”

In 2002, Sony established the Green Partner Environmental Quality Approval Program, which outlines Sony's Green Partner Standards for chemical substance management. Sony audits suppliers based on these standards. Sony purchases electronic parts only from suppliers who have passed this audit and have been certified as Green Partners.

“Now, our customers can have confidence that they can use engineering polymers manufactured at either Shelby or Florence to comply with anticipated environmental laws and regulations, and the emerging industry requirements like Sony’s Green Partner Standards,” said Edward Hallahan, technical marketing manager – Ticona High Performance Polymers.
