San Jose, Calif. – According to Electronic Trends Publications (ETP), the capacity of photovoltaic modules (panels) sold in 2007 exceeded 4 GW. This is nearly a 30 percent year-over-year increase; ETP predicts the market will grow to nearly 17 GW in 2012 and nearly 50 GW by 2022. ETP also noted that the factory cost of producing photovoltaic modules was USD 6.7 billion in 2007 and will grow to USD 57 billion in 2022, a compound annual growth rate of 15.4 percent. In addition, photovoltaic cell producers are looking to outsource module assembly to capable industry suppliers and EMS providers; outsourcing will grow to 3 percent in 2012 and 21 percent in 2022.
