March 15, 2006

San Jose, CA, -- Revenue from communications equipment sales was $309 billion in 2005, topping the $300 billion mark for the first time, reports Electronic Trend Publications (ETP, www.electronictrendpubs.com ). The equipment market was led by sales of cellular handsets with $118 billion in revenue. The cost of goods sold (COGS) for all communications equipment was $192 billion in 2005, for an industry gross margin of 38 percent. About 67 percent of the equipment manufacturing occurred in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region.

The recent ETP report "The Worldwide Communications Equipment Assembly Market" covers worldwide manufacturing of the communication equipment industry. This report presents 2005 revenue and COGS for 49 leading communications OEMs in a matrix of nine product segments and three regions. COGS data also includes a breakout of in-house versus outsourced manufacturing. COGS by product and region are forecast through 2010.
